The route changes the timing question

Finji describes Canabalt as one-button rooftop survival. Its appeal is the runner’s escape through a city. ORBIT has no roof to land on: its companion stays in motion along a curve, and a press reverses that curve without instantly changing the heading. An opening must be crossed completely before it adds to the score.

That makes a useful first comparison: do you want to read the next piece of terrain, or shape an approach through open space? Looking ahead is useful in ORBIT, but the important information includes the direction your companion will be facing when it reaches the opening. Being at the right height is only part of the task.

Try this when switching to ORBIT

Start with Pip in Classic and give one reversal enough time to form a visible bend. Resist treating every approaching obstacle as a cue for an immediate jump. Notice whether the companion is heading toward the opening or merely passing near its height. If a late correction fails, begin the same correction earlier on the next attempt rather than adding several rapid presses.

The forest camera keeps moving independently. A loop that avoids a branch can still leave you behind, so forward progress matters alongside clearance. After passing a gap, inspect your exit direction before planning the next one. This gives you a specific way to evaluate the movement without comparing unrelated score numbers between the games.

Choose the edition and the kind of replay

Finji hosts Canabalt Classic as an HTML5 game on itch.io; the main Canabalt site also points to store editions. Features such as additional modes or two-player play depend on the edition, so read its listing rather than assuming every version is identical.

ORBIT offers local personal bests and companion discoveries. Its shared challenges are friendly score targets, not simultaneous two-player runs. Choose Canabalt if rooftop running is the part you want to preserve. Choose ORBIT if controlling the shape of a moving path is the change you want to try. Neither choice requires pretending one game is a port of the other.
